Today’s poem is a bit more theological than my usual fare, but a stimulating conversation with Joan VanDessel this morning inspired me to reflect on the idea of perichoresis. She wrote a new verse to the traditional doxology, and as she explained why she did it, a poem began to dance around my mind.
perichoresis
the dance of Holy God
rotating beyond space and time,
giving way to One Another
in the cosmic Love dance–
the gateway to God open
inviting all to enter kairos.
our feeble minds often choose
to remain in the known,
the understood time of chronos
but from there we cannot
join–we cannot even witness–
the dance. for God lives
outside of our knowing him,
apart from our comprehending him.
God lives inside and around,
a Perfect Unison intersecting humanity
with Love intimate as Life;
praise God for all Love
has done with Christ and
Spirit, the Three in One.

New Doxology
“Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise God, all creatures here below
Praise God for all that Love has done,
With Christ and Spirit, Three in One. Amen.”
